We going to do this bunny hunt-pheasant hunt thing or are you all waiting for icy roads and 2 feet of snow, you may got ever see it the way it's going. Sure would be nice to be dry while hunting! Just a thought

I grouse hunted the Mille Lacs, Kennebec, and Aitkin County area a lto this Fall and never saw a hare.

If you want to shoot at game I'd suggest you do the game farm corn chicken thing.

Or, if you can find a private woodlot of two in good squirrel country, the gray squirrel population is pretty good this year. The Squirrel rut is just heating up and there was a lot of chasing going on Sunday when I was out hunting.

Have you guys ever though about a group stump shooting outing? When you do a little betting (quarter of dollar limit) as part of the stumping it gets even more fun. At the end, the winner buys all the hot chocolate/coffee or adult beverages etc... For the rest of the crew.

Stumps are easy to find and a lot cheaper than game farm pheasants.

"Stumps are easy to find and a lot cheaper than game farm pheasants."

But do they taste as good;)

Not seeing many bunnies all fall/winter.  Last winter was pretty hard of them I think.   Lots of Coyotes yipping out there on my evening walks though. May have to set down the bow and pick up the .22-250 and thin the pack.

I like the idea of a squirrel/stump shoot. Not sure how far people want to travel to hunt tree rats though?

I may not make it to a bunny/pheasant hunt this winter, I just listed our house for sale and are moving south of the cities closer to my work. We'll see how things go.

If we are going to do a stump shoot we could push it till March and make it a camp out. We could combine it with a antler hunt.

A game farm pheasant hunt could be expensive.  One local club is trucking birds in from texas, missouri. and oklahoma their getting $25.00 a bird.  I like phesant but not that much.

This has been on my mind alot as I have always kinda got this going.  I'd like to do something but have to get through January first.  Have a kid in swimming and one in wrestling.  Jacob has a small trap line and has been getting some rats and a couple mink and weasel.  I'm building 2 bows a week to get ready for Kalamazoo plus teaching.  All good though.

We have few rabbits around here and some squirrels.  I have some public land close with oaks.  I do think the shed hunting/stumping idea is awesome.  Just be nice to get into the woods.

Throw some more ideas out.  Chad

I like the Idea of pushing it more towards the spring for an antler hunt or what about a spring carp and sucker, (overnight campout and cookout) shoot get together. I just don't know any good spots but I'm sure there are some with a camp grounds near bye for us to stay the night and cook out. I just put together a bow fishing setup and I can't wait to try it out. I've never done it. Just a thought for something different.

Might want to check into the legalities of stump shooting on public hunting land in Minnesota. I've gotten conflicting info.  Not trying to be a spoil joy, but don't want to see anyone get in trouble and risk loosing equipement or hunting privs.
I've had a game warden, at an advanced hunting education class tell me he saw no problems with it. But read elsewhere that it is not allowed on public land other than in MN State Forrest land where there is no hunting.  I think we covered this before in another thread a while back. Not sure how it pertains to private land?
Just putting it out there so we don't get ourselved in hot water.

Rabbit and squirrel season ends 29 Feb. Until 15 March we could hunt raccoon, fox, 'possum, and badger (I have never seen one in MN...). I too have received conflicting info on stump shooting. The consensus has been that it is OK as long as I am being responsible (retrieve arrows, not near other people, etc.). The only written regulations I could find were a prohibition against 'reckless shooting', and no target shooting in developed campgrounds.

I like the stump shooting and the bow fishing (been wanting to try that), but I am going to be busy-busy mid Feb to and into March. I might not make whatever gets planned  Cry

Out of all the ideas so far. I support the Bowfishing idea the most. I absolutely love bowfishing. I only go 1 weekend a year, which happens to be in Illinois with a buddy of mine. I haven't bowfished in MN just for the simple fact that I don't know of a decent spot to shoot from shore. If anyone on here has the whole boat setup and know good spots to bowfish from a boat, I'll be more than happy to $$$ for the trip (gas, food) if you invite me to go with you Wink I got my own bow setup!!!

We should break the stump shoot and carp shoot into two outings. Where would be a good place to look for antlers. Some of the state parks have some monsters but you are not suppose to pick up antlers in state parks. Feb or March?

I have seen more hare tracks this year then I have in a long time.  But, I never see the hares to shoot at them!

I spend almost everyday in the woods and NEVER find sheds so I like the idea of a bowfishing outing! Cheesy
