Bowfishing from a Kayak?

Anyone bowfish from a kayak? Just bought a Kayak/Canoe hybrid on-line (Native Watercraft Ultimate 12) and am wondering if there are any tips or tricks to shooting fish from a kayak.

Can't say I do but I have been itching try a fishing 'yak. Is that a SOT (sit on top) model? If so, do you plan on shooting sitting down or is it stable enough to stand in? There is quite a bit of fellahs Kayak fishing, seems like mostly east coast but there are stories of people catching tuna and other large ocean fish! That's a little past my sanity level...but probably not too far past! I think a kayak would be great exercise for bow season for one and for two, it would get you back in little spots where you can't get a boat in. Let us know how it works out.
Good Luck, Shoot straight!

It's a cross between a kayak and a canoe. Has deeper sides than a SOT, but not as deep as a full blown canoe. Is described as stable enough to stand in, but I don't/can't swim well so I will probably just kneel. Brain is currently thinking of how to make some retractable pontoons to attach to the hull to add more stability for shooting. It's mainly going to be a fishing rig, but may as well rig it for bowfishing as well I figure.

Boy Bucksnort I don't know??? I've seen the native watercraft ultimate 12 ....being a more canoe kinda guy I recently picked up a old town pack,,, for stability the outriggers would be a good idea.....you can make them or buy them try paragis.com or other google efforts outriggers are out there....have fun with the native watercraft i've heard good reviews... almost bought one....maybe a shorter recurve would fit the bill....good luck bowfishing give us a report and photos...

Hey Mike, I had bought an Old Town Pack last year, used it a couple times and it just wasn't for me. Seem very tippy, and did not track well. I'm sure I could have gotten used to it with more time. I sold it for what I paid for it so am not out anything. I paddled a 14.5 foot Ultimate a couple years ago and liked it, but could not pull the trigger on the asking price. Got a good deal on-line on the 12' model, cheaper that buying locally even with the massive shipping cost, go figure.
I saw a pair of those out-riggers at Cabela's this evening, probably go that rout.

Sounds like fun but the low angle is not preferred for spotting and shooting. It is best to have a platform if possible. You better give it a try and let us know.

The lower angle will not be a problem if the water is clear. Back in the late 80's when we were in a drought we shot tons of fish just wading. We were out last night and the lakes are starting to turn green and get a slime on them.
